Software makes the world go ‘round — on your computer, at least. Watch to learn more about what exactly software is and how software runs computer operations.
At its core, software is a set of instructions that tell a computer how to work. Almost everything you interact with on your computer is fueled by software — from spreadsheets to apps to games. Software runs on top of hardware, or the physical parts of a computer.
Software typically falls into two main categories: application software — like word processors and web browsers — or system software — like the operating system that supports application software. And, middleware is sometimes used to describe programs that mediate between the two.
